Campus Climate:
Generally speaking, the campus is warm towards trans* individuals. The Student Health Center is staffed by welcoming and trans* friendly people. Advisers have have made efforts to get students' PGPs correct, and the university offers a petition to have preferred name and gender entered into the computer system and on a new I.D card without a court ordered name change. The professors and graduate students in the physical science faculty have all been accepting. There are a number of queer related classes that are offered, including some specific to trans* people. The general lack of an abundance of gender neutral bathrooms is a big problem, though plans are being developed by the university to alleviate the issue. Students are largely accepting, with only a few seeming to be uncomfortable. There are many trans* friendly queer groups that meet at the Cantu Queer Center, the campus LGBT resource center, and there is even a group called Blender that is a trans* support group. There are also out trans* faculty members.
Overall, the campus is very trans* friendly.
