There is a small lgbt group, "STARS" that does very little in regards to trans*spectrum students. The lgbt student liaison and Feminists United for Sexual Equality (FUSE) occasionally try to offer speakers or events related to/inclusive of trans* issues (social, political, and campus - related).
Gender-Neutral Housing Options:
There is currently only gender-neutral housing available in the Townhouses (the most expensive option, only available to upperclassmen). However, you can be housed in suites of mixed genders. Your roommate assignment for your room of the suite will be with a person of the same gender under which you are registered (in a dorm or suite).
Special Interest Housing:
There is one LGBT - related house - a suite in Warring Commons (WC) for students interested in "Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies" (WGSX program). You can apply any year, and it offers opportunities to participate in the programs the WGSX program offers through the year, as well as room with people usually familiar with a respectful of LGBT issues.
Courses and Programs of Study:
There is a cross-disciplinary studies minor in Women's, Gender, and Sexuality studies. The department offers: WGSX 150 (Introductory Topics in Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies), WGSX 200 (Introduction to Women Studies), WGSX 201 (Introduction to Gender Studies), WGSX 250 and 350 (Topics and Advanced topics in WGSX studies, respectively), and WGSX 450 (Seminar in WGSX topics).
There are a number of courses in other disciplines that touch on these topics, and are cross-listed as "WGSX"
Fraternities and Sororities:
There are no fraternities or sororities at SMCM.
