Campus Climate:

There is at least one LGBT-knowledgeable admissions staffer. Not much is discussed at Orientation weekend about LGBT issues. The library carries a few trans-related books, and there is a helpful Inter-Library Loan staff which seeks out books from other libraries.

Housing Policy:

There is no formal policy regarding housing transgender students, but the Director of Residence Life is open for discussion.

Gender-Neutral Housing Options:

Kettering's single residence hall is divided into single-gender, co-ed, and 24-hour quiet corridors. Most rooms are suites with two single rooms connected by a pocket door, but there is at least one true single in each corridor.

Facilities:

There are no gender-neutral toilets in academic buildings, though there are two (single stall) in the Campus Center lobby.
Residence hall bathrooms are communal, and there are a couple that are signed gender-neutrally.

Sports:

Intramural athletics are pretty much all co-ed.

Courses and Programs of Study:

The catalog offers one course, SOC338 Gender and Society, but it hasn't been offered recently.

Healthcare

Campus Health Services:

Gratis counselling is offered in the Wellness Centre. Knowledge of trans* issues varies by staff member.

Health Insurance:

Two years ago, the student health insurance policy explicitly excluded any trans related care. We have recently switched providers, though; further research is needed.

Records and Identity Documents

Registrar's Office:

Formal documentation of name change is required. To change your name in official documents, you submit a form to the Registrar's Office, including formal documentation.

Course Management System:

Your name in Blackboard follows your legal name.

Student ID Card:

A new ID card with a new photograph will be issued if you return the old ID card to the IT help desk. Legal names appear on ID cards.

School Email:

Student email addresses at Kettering are based on your last name and student ID number. If you change your last name, you'll be automatically issued a new email address reflecting that.
Students can change the name that appears when sending email by going to mail settings. (Kettering uses Google Apps)

Employment Records:

These use the same records as Registrar's Office and Blackboard, so it's legal name only.

Online Profiles:

Directory information (address, phone number) can be changed through Banner Web, but displayed name cannot.
